AVID: Avid is a program designed to help mainly high school teenagers who may need help or someone there to help them be successful in the future. I have been in Avid program since my freshman year and am currently still in Avid. Avid has helped me get through high school, I started off my first year at high school not really knowing much about high school and hardly anything about college and now I am a senior and the Avid program has guided me in the right direction and has taught me multiple ways to help me become successful. Avid has helped me improve my leadership, organization, work, and study skills through a variety of ways. Avid has made a great impact on me.
FBLA
FBLA: FBLA is a club which stands for Future Business Leaders of America; however, it is not only for students pursuing a career in business. I have been in FBLA since my sophomore year and I have gained a lot from it. FBLA has taught me how to communicate effectively with others during meetings and in group events. I have also learned about business and to become a more competitive person. I have been involved in the competitive events that FBLA has to offer every year. As the years have passed I have been pushing myself more and more every time I compete because I know that it is very competitive. FBLA has also allowed me to help out the community. I have helped the community through the March of Dimes to help end premature births. I have also helped by donating gifts or canned food to help the misfortune or needy during holidays.
REAP
REAP: The Reap Program is a program made to support education in rural agricultural communities. I am in the Reap program and have been in Reap since I was in 8th grade. This program has helped me stay motivated to get level fours in my classes. If you get good grades and you have great life skills then the Reap Program will award you a scholarship. I really like the Reap program and I feel fortunate to have it here at Lindsay High School.. I am working very hard in my classes because I can really benefit from this program. I would really appreciate getting a scholarship for doing well in school. I know other schools wish they also had the Reap program or a similar one that would award them scholarship money for trying hard in school and receiving good grades.
Key Club
Key Club: Key Club is a club that has given me the opportunity to get involved with lots of community events and activities. This club is a club that organizes activities to help out in the community and it offers students many ways to get community service hours which are a requirement for graduation. I would really recommend joining this club to anyone who wants to get involved and give back to their school and their community. You can even start planning your own community project in Key Club and there are other club members that will support you and help you out with what you are trying to accomplish. Overall Key Club has informed me with community events and helped me get more involved,
Spanish National Honor Society
Spanish National Honor Society: I joined Spanish Honors Society in the beginning of this year. I was not able to join this club until this year because in order to be in this club you have to be in a certain type of Spanish class. This year I am in AP Spanish Language so I applied to this club and got admitted to it. Spanish Honors Society allows students with a higher GPA to graduate with honors which means that these students will wear something different than others in graduation which will make them stand out. I am looking forward to be graduating with Spanish Honors and continuing my Spanish skills. I have helped with a few activities with other members of this club. For example, I will be able to help at the Lindsay’s 105th annual awards banquet on January 28, 2017. This club has gave me opportunities to help out in school and even community events which has also helped me improve my social skills.
Migrant Program
Migrant Program: I have been involved in the migrant program for many years. This program has helped me out a lot. It is designed to help out and support migratory families and my family is a migratory family. This program gives my family access to many services that wouldn't be available to us otherwise. For example, because of this program I have been able to visit many colleges and universities. I have participated in youth leadership conferences which allowed me to learn more of what's out in the world and also meet some great people. The Migrant Program has also helped me out with some college awareness workshops to help me better prepare for my future career and know what's required of me to reach my goals. This program also offered me free tutoring on non school days, which is really great. Last but not least, I have also gained some work experience through Migrant Program Work Study. I have gained so many from this great program that I am in.
